Lame Posts

I have a confession to make and a question to ask.

First, the confession.  The only thing I could think to blog about tonight was lame.  It wasn’t writing, blogging, or even reading related.  I trashed it only part of the way in – none of you wanted to read that.  I’ve written unrelated posts before (most recently during my moving adventure) but this one was particularly random.

Second, the question, aimed primarily at the bloggers.  If you start a lame post and realize that it sucks, do you trash it or post it anyway?  I know a couple of you mentioned a few days ago that no post is a better option than a bad post – is this the general consensus?

Well, you certainly don’t want to become known for being lame. Readers may not notice a few extra days of silence, but a lemon of a post is more difficult to miss (particularly for followers who get the posts in their inboxes). So if one’s got nothing coming up on the screen but utterly lousiness, a break from the keyboard may indeed be the wisest course to take.

I think it is worth persevering with a post until you get something down. If when you’ve finished, you’re still not happy, you can delete it and no-one will be any the wiser. Or you can leave it unpublished and maybe you’ll come up with an idea later that adds the necessary zing to raise it from lemon-ness to greatness.

Perfection is hard to keep up 😉
