Elk in the Car and other crazy adventures

Three elk stuck their heads in my car today.

My best friend and I are on an epic Texas zoos and aquariums road trip.  This afternoon went drove through Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, which is a mostly open-range hoofstock.  We also had a bag of approved feed that we gave to the animals.  While you are not supposed to feed the animals by hand, nobody told the elk to keep their faces out of your car!  There was also an ostrich that Jack christened Gandalfina, because while she was clearly female, she also clearly told the car behind us “You shall not pass!”

We’ve also walked through a tunnel in a shark tank and saw giant Japanese spider crabs this morning, walked amongst unending peafowl yesterday, and saw the most accurate zoogeographic exhibits I have ever seen.  (There was also a rock hyrax watching and willing to take on a lion, and four very young baby crowned cranes that were crazy cute.)  Add those to a guided tour of Moody Gardens (thanks Karly!) and an afternoon at a waterpark, and this has already been a fun road trip!  Tomorrow we’re visiting one last zoo, and then on to home.

After that, I have a new adventure to work on – finishing the packing and cleaning before departing for the drive to South Dakota.

Just when you thought it didn’t get any better than an “elk in the car!” story, enter Gandalfina! XD Sounds like a great time, Leigh.
