Words of Wisdom Wednesday

I have been watching The National Parks from PBS recently, and there is a great quote from Teddy Roosevelt in the second episode.  In the spirit of that quote, I have three quotes from speeches for you today!

“Leave it as it is. You can not improve on it. The ages have been at work on it, and man can only mar it.” – Theodore Roosevelt at the Grand Canyon, May 6, 1903  (From www.theodoreroosevelt.com)

“This Nation was founded by men of many nations and backgrounds. It was founded on the principle that all men are created equal, and that the rights of every man are diminished when the rights of one man are threatened.” – John F. Kennedy’s Civil Rights Address, June 11, 1963 (from www.americanrhetoric.com)

“The poet’s, the writer’s, duty is to write about these things. It is his privilege to help man endure by lifting his heart, by reminding him of the courage and honor and hope and pride and compassion and pity and sacrifice which have been the glory of his past.” – William Faulkner, accepting his Nobel Prize in Literature, Dec 10, 1950  (from www.americanrhetoric.com)
