To My Former Birding Partner

This is the poem that has been mentioned in a few previous posts.  Several of you mentioned wanting to read it.  Here’s hoping it translates okay into written form.

You pulled the pages from my life, and ripped them.

                Once.

                        Twice.

                                    Again.

I        was         devastated.

.

Somehow, I found the strength to gather up the pieces.

.

I think you were surprised at how many hands reached in,

offering  tape and paper clips, staples and glue

We put the pages back

                    Together

                            Without you.

It might look different.      It does feel different.

                         But you               were                  wrong.

You said I was only afraid of being alone.

.

I am not afraid.

I may live alone.           I may sleep alone.

But I am not alone.

.

When you dropped my heart, you did me a favor.

It broke open

And look how much love poured in.
